LASER HAIR REMOVAL – REMOVE UNWANTED HAIR

Do you have hair in unwanted places, like on your face or at your bikini line? We can help! Our laser hair reduction treatment is a great option for men and women who want to safely and efficiently target areas on their body where hair is not wanted or needed.

Our experts compiled this guide to help you understand what to expect when it comes to laser hair reduction treatment in Kansas City.

HOW DOES LASER HAIR REMOVAL WORK?

We use Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology for laser hair reduction treatments, utilizing an FDA-approved device called cynosure for permanent hair reduction. The device creates light energy, which is then absorbed into the targeted hair’s melanin (dark pigment) to ultimately damage the hair follicle. This light travels through the skin until it strikes the hair shafts or the bulb (root). The bulb is usually where the highest concentration of melanin is located.

As the light is absorbed, the bulb and most of the hair shaft are heated, destroying the hair-producing papilla. Hair growth is safely reduced without damaging the surrounding tissue.

Epiphany Dermatology offers many types of laser hair removal in Kansas City.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS DOES IT TAKE TO SEE RESULTS?

We recommend a series of 6 treatments usually spaced 4-8 weeks apart, depending on the treatment area or location. Not all hairs are in the same phase of hair growth, hence the multiple treatments.

At any one time, not all hair follicles are ‘active,’ and only active hair follicles can be affected by the treatment. ‘Inactive’ hair follicles can be treated as they become ‘active’ over time. Over the course of several treatments, we will treat every follicle for the ultimate success rate.

What is the Success Rate of Laser Hair Removal?

Most patients will experience approximately 80% permanent hair reduction. Patients who will see the best results tend to have dark coarse hair and are consistent with their recommended treatment frequency.

IS LASER HAIR REMOVAL PERMANENT?

For the most part. You may want to schedule annual touch-up appointments, but many people will go years without seeing any unwanted hair. And if they do see it, it’ll be lighter and less dense than before.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR LASER HAIR REMOVAL

Initially, you should schedule a complimentary consultation prior to scheduling an appointment. An aesthetician will discuss the treatment process and ensure you are an appropriate candidate.

From there, you’ll need to prepare the area. 6-8 weeks before your treatment, stop waxing and tweezing the area as it disrupts the hair-growth cycles. You can continue to shave or begin to shave the area if you haven’t yet done so. We cannot treat tanned skin or skin with self-tanner on them, which is why laser hair removal in Kansas City is much more popular in the fall and wintertime.

Because of this, summer is the best time to start thinking about laser hair removal. Get ahead of the curve and schedule laser hair removal treatments in Kansas City before fall or winter hits; that way, you’re prepared and on our calendar early.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING LASER HAIR REMOVAL TREATMENT

Although there may be some slight temporary discomfort depending on the treatment area and density of hair, the treatments are very quick – some areas only take minutes to treat. Larger sites take approximately 30 minutes to treat.

One of the most common questions we receive is if laser hair removal hurts. Most people find it to be a very tolerable treatment and only feel a momentary “snap” at the treatment site during the procedure. Discomfort will minimize during the treatment process (first treatment might be more uncomfortable; last treatment may not have as much discomfort). Numbing cream may be applied to certain areas.

HOW MUCH IS LASER HAIR REMOVAL?

The cost of treatment depends on the size of the area treated and the amount of hair. Our packages range from $625-$2,995. You can find all of our laser hair removal prices here.

WHAT IS THE RECOVERY TIME AFTER LASER HAIR REMOVAL?

There is no downtime after laser hair reduction treatment. You may experience some minor swelling. Some patients report the sensation of a minor sunburn for a day or two, but you may resume your normal activities.

We recommend avoiding exfoliating or using products with AHA or BHA’s and retinols on the treated area (alpha or beta hydroxy acids). Also, sunscreen is a must!
